The new CARISMA expansion sites will consist of at least a fluxgate magnetomter, data logger and UPS power supply. There is also a GPS receiver for accurate timing and some form of internet connection to return the data to Edmonton - usually a Ka-band satellite system.

The fluxgate sensor is located outdoors about 60 metres from the building containing the electronics and connected to it by a buried cable. The sensor is mounted on a concrete pillar as shown below.

The sensor is protected from the elements by a fibreglass silo.

The data logger and electronics do not take up much space so we can use an existing building where possible. In this case we are using an old grain silo as the primary shelter and we provide a small plastic shelter within that to provide a thermally stable environment.

Where there is no existing building which we can make use of then we will provide a small shelter to house the electronics. The image below shows the CGSM hut at Dawson City.
